Colonel G., Commander of the 300th Battalion, western sector on the Lebanon border, is willing to take a risk and assess that Hezbollah will not be able to capture Shlomi if it decides to do so, and that a broad surprise attack by Hezbollah - in the current operational situation today - cannot be realized.
He describes to us the changes in the sector: “Every settlement in the sector that is adjacent to the fence has a force located in the settlement that does not depend on the ability to reach it. Given an attack - the force depends on nothing, only on its legs - it runs and within a few minutes it is in the settlement, in the positions that allow a response.”
Regarding the rules of engagement in the sector, he says: “A Hezbollah terrorist approaching the obstacle, even at a distance of hundreds of meters from the fence - the force on the ground is allowed to kill him, the moment they identify him as a terrorist. Not the battalion commander - the force on the ground.”
?About the lessons of October 7 in the brigade, he says that first and foremost it is required to carry out “defense by the book.” What does that mean? “Action in the security zone, a military force inside the settlements that are the object of defense and the places we need to defend to our last drop of blood, the obstacle is just an obstacle and it is not everything, not to be satisfied with anything, and to take every piece of intelligence or every thought of any commander or soldier - from the observer to the battalion commander - seriously.”
