Today we held a special session in the Knesset in honor of the President of the Republic of Paraguay, my dear friend Santiago Peña, and his wife Letizia, along with the distinguished delegation from Paraguay.

I was particularly moved to welcome President Peña to Jerusalem in the midst of the complex times we find ourselves in. This is a courageous message of solidarity and support for Israel. The President’s moving words: “We will always stand by Israel, no matter the cost. Because this is the right side of history,” illustrate courageous and ethical leadership, especially at a time when the world is facing attempts to distort the truth.

During the meeting, we spoke about the historical depth of the friendship between Paraguay and Israel, a friendship that was further strengthened with Paraguay’s decision to move the embassy to Jerusalem – our eternal capital for 3,000 years. Tomorrow we will inaugurate the new embassy in Jerusalem together – a historic step that symbolizes recognition of the truth and righteousness of our path.
