Argentina has expressed its support for Palestine more than once, and in 2010 it officially recognized Palestine as a free and independent state within the 1967 borders, as stated in a statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs at the time.
The celebration was organized in the street, which was decorated with the flags of Palestine and Argentina, and on all the intersections and roads crossing it, signs bearing the name "State of Palestine" were installed.
The mayor of the city, Jorge Pareda, said that the approval of the draft resolution on the name of the street "was accepted unanimously by the members of the municipal council, which expresses the identification of the citizens of the city and its council with the struggle of the Palestinian people facing the arrogance of the Israeli occupier."
