The son of Iran’s president, Yousef Pezeshkian, said the country’s internet must be fully restored, calling access to it a basic necessity for daily life.
In unusually candid remarks, he also acknowledged that authorities and security forces may have made mistakes and committed acts of injustice, stressing that these issues must be addressed.
Speaking amid ongoing internal tensions, he argued that prolonged internet disruptions harm ordinary citizens, businesses, education, and Iran’s ability to function in the modern world. “The internet is no longer a luxury,” he said. “It is a fundamental need, and cutting it off from the public creates unnecessary suffering.”
He went on to say that while maintaining security is important, it must not come at the expense of basic rights. According to his comments, failures by authorities or security bodies should not be ignored or justified. Instead, he said, they require honest examination and corrective action.
