Turkey says it will launch a military campaign in Iraq to secure the road-rail project to the Gulf. Iraq says it will NOT allow this!
Turkish forces are set to launch new attacks on the PKK in the western parts of Iraq's Kurdistan region this summer after internal Turkish criticism of military movements in Iraq's northern mountains.
Iraqi Interior Minister Abdul Amir al-Shamari:
"We will not allow Turkey to turn Iraq into a launching point for attacks on our neighbors or to attack in our territory under the pretext of the presence of the PKK."
The background to Baghdad's fears
Tehran and Baghdad reached a settlement in March 2023 by signing a security agreement to disarm separatist terrorist groups in the Kurdistan region of Iraq.
The Iraqi forces took control of the border bases where those separatist terrorist groups were stationed.
Iraq is worried.
By the way, according to the report, while he was speaking, the Turkish forces launched airstrikes in northern Iraq.
