Washington, D.C. has been placed under lockdown until further notice after the shooting that wounded National Guard soldiers near the White House.
Secretary of War Pete Hegseth announced that a major increase of military forces will be deployed across the capital, emphasizing that the attack was a direct assault on those protecting the nation.
His public statement was forceful, declaring that anyone who targets U.S. forces will only strengthen America’s determination: “We will never back down. We will secure our capital, we will secure our cities.”
Federal authorities have expanded security perimeters around key institutions as troops begin moving into strategic positions across the city. Officials say the lockdown will remain in effect as law-enforcement and military units assess any additional threats.
