A new review highlights a pattern of Squad lawmakers directing campaign or publicly connected funds toward husbands, fiancés and boyfriends.
Four of the five female politicians associated with the Squad have faced scrutiny over money or benefits directed toward their romantic partners, according to a review by FrontPage Magazine. The cases involve Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Ilhan Omar, Cori Bush and Ayanna Pressley.
Former Rep. Cori Bush’s campaign paid more than $150,000 to her husband, Cortney Merritts, for security services, despite questions about his qualifications. The arrangement became the subject of a congressional ethics investigation.
Ilhan Omar’s campaign paid millions of dollars to the consulting firm formerly operated by Tim Mynett, whom she later married. More recently, Omar corrected a financial disclosure that initially valued businesses connected to Mynett at between $6 million and $30 million.
