Israel wins silver at rhythmic gymnastics world cup circuit meet

Daria Atamanov qualifies for finals in hoop and baton; Israelis fourth on medal table so far for 2023 FIG Rhythmic Gymnastics World Cup series

Israel’s rhythmic gymnastics team won a silver medal on Saturday night at the Milan stop of the 2023 FIG Rhythmic Gymnastics World Cup series.

The Israeli team of Ofir Shaham, Diana Svertsov, Hadar Friedman, Liza Benchuk, Romi Paritzki and Shani Bakanov scored a total of 69.4 points overall for its hoops and mixed equipment routines in the all-round contest section.

The score was equal to that of gold-winner Italy, but the latter was given the top spot for scoring higher on performance.

In addition, Daria Atamanov qualified for the final in the individuals’ hoops contest and the baton event.

The Israeli team won a gold and three silvers in May during the Baku stop of the World Cup series, while gymnast Adi Katz won another silver for her hoops routine.

Israel is currently fourth on the medal table for the series with four gold and seven silver medals. Top of the table is Italy, followed by Bulgaria and Germany.

Israel has racked up an impressive list of medal wins in recent years at rhythmic gymnastics events, including a gold medal at the 2021 Olympics in Tokyo for Linoy Ashram and two gold medals at the World Games in Birmingham the following year.
