In a speech at the memorial ceremony for the victims of the Yom Kippur War, Prime Minister Lapid said in his speech that soldiers "left their tefillin and took up arms." On the net they were quick to make him wrong.
In his speech commemorating the 49 years since the Yom Kippur War, Yair Lapid spoke about social cohesion during the war and said:
"When thousands of worshipers were torn from the synagogue and had to replace their tallit with uniforms and their tefillin with a rifle, they did not ask who was right-wing and who was left-wing, who fasted and who did not fast.
As anyone connected to Jewish ritual knows - like Shabbat, Jews do not put on Tefillin on Yom Kippur, and saying this is plain embarrassing!
