Competition for Israel? Algeria considers gas to Jordan
Doron Peskin, Middle East Expert 16.06.2022
For years, the loud opposition in Jordan has attacked the government for signing a long-term gas supply agreement from Israel, without considering other options it claims.
A name that has always been mentioned as an alternative to Israel is Algeria, although experts doubt the feasibility. In any case, Algeria confirmed that yesterday the two countries discussed for the first time the possibility of supplying crude oil and natural gas to Jordan.
The remarks were included in a statement from the Algerian Ministry of Energy, following a meeting between the North African country's energy minister and Jordanian Minister of Industry, Trade and Supply Yussef a-Shamali.
