A suspect filmed detonating an explosive outside a Jewish school in Amsterdam is being hunted by Dutch authorities after the overnight blast caused limited damage and no injuries.
Dutch officials said the explosion struck the outer wall of the school in Amsterdam’s Buitenveldert district early Saturday. Authorities confirmed the suspect was caught on camera, and security has now been reinforced around Jewish schools and other Jewish institutions. Amsterdam Mayor Femke Halsema condemned the attack as a deliberate and cowardly act against the city’s Jewish community, warning that antisemitism is leaving many Jews in the city feeling fear and anger.
The attack came just one day after an explosion and small fire at a synagogue in the Dutch port city of Rotterdam, and follows another blast near a synagogue in Liege, Belgium earlier this week. Dutch Justice and Security Minister David van Weel said the safety of Jewish institutions has the government’s full attention as investigators work to identify those responsible.
