A confidential report prepared for Iran’s presidency and then leaked shows in a major survey indicates that most Iranians want democracy, oppose the regime’s regional wars and favor improved relations with the West.
A comprehensive survey of more than 30,000 respondents inside Iran has revealed a deep rejection of the Islamic Republic’s ideology and foreign policy.
According to the findings, 58% oppose the regime’s financial and military support for terrorist proxies such as Hezbollah and Hamas. Meanwhile, 63% said the conflict with Israel was the regime’s war—not the Iranian people’s war.
Public anger is also directed at Tehran’s leadership. Some 58% said the regime failed to protect civilians, while 42% described anger toward the Islamic Republic as their strongest emotion during the fighting.
