In a rare attack in northern Tripoli, Lebanon, The IDF announced last night the elimination of Maharan Mustafa Baajour.
Baajour was a senior figure in Hamas's Lebanon branch, actively involved in organizing attacks against Israel, expanding Hamas's military presence in Lebanon, and procuring weapons.
Lebanese sources reported that Baajour had previously been imprisoned in Ghana and released some time ago.
A search through records reveals that his family had complained about his disappearance: on December 13, 2018, after arriving in Ghana with a valid business visa, he was arrested by local intelligence agents along with two Ghanaian citizens.
While the two locals were released, Baajour vanished. His family claimed that Ghanaian intelligence denied he had been detained or was even in the country.
He was eventually released in March 2019. The UK-based Arab Organization for Human Rights later published what appeared to be a statement from Baajour, in which he claimed he had been interrogated by Mossad agents.
According to him, one interrogator wore a jacket with Hebrew writing and used Hebrew words like "shekel." He also alleged that he was held in a one-meter-by-one-meter room, tortured for 35 days with sleep deprivation, cold water dousing, and beatings.
He claimed he was flown to various locations during the interrogations and eventually released in Kenya, although he had disappeared in Ghana.
