Lebanese President Joseph Aoun declared today that his country “sees no other option but to choose the path of negotiations,” referring to Lebanon’s relations with Israel.
His remarks come amid growing tensions between the two countries over Hezbollah’s attempts to rearm and reports of a possible escalation.
Speaking at the Baabda Palace before a delegation of civil society representatives, Aoun emphasized the need to prefer “the language of diplomacy and negotiation” over “the language of war, which we’ve seen the consequences of.”
He stressed that Lebanon’s policy should rest on three main pillars — diplomacy, economy, and security — adding that “when war brings no results, the next step is dialogue.”
