The report states that the specialized unit from the United States Department of Defense provided operational support as part of broader US-Mexico security coordination. Details surrounding the exact nature of the Pentagon’s involvement remain limited, but the development signals a significant escalation in direct US engagement against one of Mexico’s most powerful and violent criminal organizations.
El Mencho had long been considered one of the most wanted drug lords in the world, accused of overseeing large-scale fentanyl and methamphetamine trafficking operations into the US, as well as orchestrating extreme violence inside Mexico. The CJNG has been designated by US authorities as one of the most dangerous transnational criminal organizations operating today.
