Khamenei's adviser, Mehdi Fazaili: “We must all pray”
With the entire country watching, an Iranian state TV anchor asked the question many in Iran are quietly whispering: Where is Khamenei? According to the New York Times, in his absence, Iranian political and military elites are forming alliances and maneuvering to influence key issues—such as the nuclear program, talks with the U.S., and tensions with Israel.
Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has not been seen or heard from in nearly a week, despite the recent ceasefire with Israel. His unexplained absence is fueling speculation and concern across Iran’s political spectrum and among the public.
On Tuesday, the head of Khamenei’s archive office, Mehdi Fazaili, appeared on state TV but avoided giving a direct answer about Khamenei’s condition, instead saying, “We must all pray.” He added, “Those responsible for protecting the Supreme Leader are doing their job.”
