Last week, the defense establishment established the understanding that the two fleeing security prisoners, who were apprehended only on Sunday night, had crossed the seam zone and were hiding in Jenin. Pieces of information began to accumulate, and the eyes were on GSS chief Nadav Argaman, who was required to decide how likely it was that the two prisoners, or at least one of them, were hiding in a building in the east of the city, on which intelligence information was received.
According to early estimates by the IDF and the GSS, the security prisoners did not intend to give up but to fight. "A person who escapes all the way from Gilboa prison to Jenin is not waiting to see if he will be caught," the senior official says. However, other sources explain that the prisoners were probably under heavy pressure and realized that in order not to harm the household members they had to surrender themselves without a fight.
"When you are caught with your pants down, when you are a guest with other people, you ask yourself: Am I committing suicide? Becoming a martyr or will some members of the household be martyrs with me? And will this house be destroyed?", The source says. Other sources even claimed that "their decision shows the degree of deterrence in the demolition of terrorist homes", noting the conversation between one of the prisoners and his father while the IDF fighters announce him to go outside, during which he said he chose not to fight.
