Romania selects Rafael’s air defense system in the second-largest Israeli arms deal ever.

Israeli military technology company Rafael has secured a $2.2 billion deal to supply Romania with a missile defense system, the Romanian Ministry of Defense announced in a statement on Monday.

Romania said it will be acquiring Rafael’s Very Short and Short Range Air Defense (V/SHORAD) program, after a tender process that saw numerous companies compete for the contract.

The V/SHORAD acquisition is part of an overhaul of Romania’s air defense systems, which is partially funded by the European Union, the Romanian Ministry of Defense said.
