Hamas Leader Yahya Sinwar OCT 16, 2025
WATCH: One year ago today marked the final moments of Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar
On October 16, 2024, in Rafah's Tal al-Sultan neighborhood, Sinwar was killed in a chance IDF encounter during a routine patrol by trainee commanders—not a targeted raid based on intelligence.
Around 10 a.m., troops spotted three militants, including Sinwar and his bodyguard, Mahmoud Hamdan, moving between buildings. A firefight ensued; two were killed by drone strikes, and Sinwar, injured (shrapnel to chest, arm, and leg), fled into a damaged building.
Tank shells collapsed the structure. Found alive but gravely wounded in the rubble, he defiantly threw a stick at an IDF drone before being shot in the head at close range - likely by a sniper.
