With 67 votes in favor and one against: The law to change the composition of the Judicial Selection Committee was approved in second and third readings in the Knesset.
MK Rothman: I am proud to announce that the Judiciary Basic Law, which reshapes the Judicial Selection Committee, has passed its second and third readings in the Knesset and will now be enshrined in Israeli law.
This reform is a crucial step toward restoring balance between government branches, strengthening public trust in the judiciary, and ensuring a fairer, more transparent judicial appointment process. Known as the "Levin-Sa'ar Framework," it introduces key changes to the committee’s composition and decision-making rules.
Why Is This Reform Important?

Restoring Checks and Balances: Until now, the Supreme Court held veto power over its own appointments. This law ensures that judges are chosen by elected representatives, returning decision-making authority to the people.
