At least 296 people have been "pulled from the rubble" and hundreds injured as a powerful 6.8 magnitude earthquake jolted Morocco on Friday night.

The epicenter's area in the High Atlas Mountains, known as Ighil, is a region of small farming villages.
Residents of Marrakech, the nearest big city to the epicenter, said some buildings had collapsed in the old city, a UNESCO World Heritage site, and local television showed pictures of a fallen mosque minaret with rubble lying on smashed cars.
