Qatar sticks its claws into Lebanon

Qatar is entering deeply into Lebanon’s gas sector.

Today, a search/production agreement was signed in Beirut regarding “Block 8” between Lebanon and an international consortium including Qatar Energy, the French company Total, and the Italian company ENI.

The first phase of the agreement includes conducting a 3D seismic survey over an area of about 1,200 sq km in Lebanese waters, with the aim of moving forward to drilling later.

The implication for Israel in brief: Qatar is strengthening its hold in the eastern Mediterranean and in the Lebanese arena.

Qatar wants to replace Iran and Hizbulla in Lebanon. Still,their political infrastructures are Qatar’s money and Hizbullas’s ideology and its large influence in its supporters with Qatari money.
