At least twelve people were killed, including children, and dozens others wounded when gunmen opened fire during a Chanukah celebration at Sydney’s Bondi Beach on Sunday evening, Australian officials said.

Among those murdered was Chabad emissary Rabbi Eli Schlanger, a respected rabbinic leader who served the local Jewish community. 

Chabad-Lubavitch confirmed that Rabbi Schlanger was killed in the attack, which took place during a public Jewish holiday gathering near the beach.
