The Trump administration is reportedly increasing pressure on Oman to reduce its ties with Iran and even consider cutting relations with Tehran.
According to the report, Oman has served for years as one of the main diplomatic channels between Washington and Tehran, trying to keep communication open even during the latest confrontation. But officials in Washington now see Oman’s policy toward Iran as increasingly hostile to US interests.
The message being sent to Muscat is clear: Oman may have to choose between deepening its relationship with Tehran and preserving its strategic partnership with the US.
This is a significant shift because Oman has long been viewed as a neutral regional mediator, especially on Iran-related issues. If Washington decides that Muscat is no longer a reliable channel, one of the most important back doors between Iran and the West could begin to close.
