The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced that it had eliminated Mahdi Vafaei, head of the Engineering Branch of the IRGC Quds Force’s Lebanon Corps, in a precision strike in the Mahallat area of central Iran.
Vafaei played a pivotal role in Iran’s efforts to construct extensive underground infrastructure for Hezbollah in Lebanon and the Assad regime in Syria.
Over two decades in his position, he oversaw dozens of subterranean projects designed to store advanced weaponry and facilitate terrorist operations across both countries.
Israel described the strike as a significant setback to Hezbollah’s underground military capabilities and to Iran’s broader regional strategy of expanding its terror infrastructure throughout the Middle East.
