Prime Minister Netanyahu and Defense Minister Katz have instructed the creation of a National Munitions Authority, a move aimed at addressing both the current war effort and Israel’s long-term strategic independence.
The decision follows high-level discussions between political leaders and the defense establishment, where the need became clear. It comes partly as a response to partial or full arms embargoes imposed by certain European states, but more significantly as an attempt to reduce reliance on the United States.
Officials point to past disruptions, such as Washington’s suspension of weapons shipments during Israel’s Rafah operation, and threats by former US Defense Secretary Austin and Secretary of State Blinken to impose an arms embargo if humanitarian aid to Gaza was not expanded.
