The United States military overnight launched a large-scale operation dubbed “Operation Hawkeye Strike” against ISIS infrastructure in central and northeastern Syria.
According to a statement by US Central Command (CENTCOM), the operation was carried out under the direct instruction of Donald Trump, and included strikes on more than 70 targets using fighter jets, attack helicopters, and artillery. CENTCOM said over 100 precision-guided munitions were used, with the Royal Jordanian Air Force actively participating.
US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth wrote on X that the operation was retaliation for the killing in Syria of two US National Guard soldiers and a civilian interpreter over the weekend, stressing that the United States would pursue its enemies wherever they attempt to hide.
President Trump said on Truth Social that the operation constituted “very serious retaliation” and confirmed that Syria’s new government, led by President Ahmed al-Sharaa, was informed in advance and supported the strikes.
