A senior Israeli official told Al-Arabiya that meetings with representatives of the new Syrian government, held under Turkish auspices, were “positive.” He noted that Syria had shown goodwill toward Israel, and in return, Israel intends to respond in kind.
He stated, “The situation in the region will change,” and emphasized that Syria is an important country. He added that Syria joining the Abraham Accords would significantly reshape regional dynamics.
Israel is closely monitoring the situation in Syria and has no intention of accepting the previous regime’s status quo. Regarding the Syrian-Lebanese border, he stressed the need for tighter supervision and said Israel is helping prevent weapons and drug smuggling.
The official clarified that Israel does not support any military or faction in Syria, and views the current Syrian administration as the legitimate sovereign government.
