Israeli startup 'Carbonade', plans to upcycle excess carbon dioxide (CO2) in the atmosphere and turn it into usable carbon-based byproducts like plastic, building materials, and even detergent.
Carbonade is duplicating what plants have been practicing for millions of years – photosynthesis.
The novel technology uses an electrochemical cell to mix captured CO2 with water, electricity, and low-cost metals.
This produces a chemical reaction that separates carbon and oxygen molecules which become volatile and seek out other compounds with which to bind.
Creating carbon products made out of air!
The process is similar to a battery or fuel cell, but instead of producing electricity, it takes in electricity, and the process remains carbon neutral.
