Jordan has always been considered a country with few resources whose political and economic stability depends on external factors. But is this about to change?
The Jordanian Minister of Energy and Minerals, Saleh Al-Kharabsha, stated yesterday that the results of the gas explorations carried out in the Risha gas field in the east of the kingdom were "very positive".
According to him, studies on the proven reserves are in their final stages of execution. Then he dropped the bomb when he said "the existing quantities [of gas] are enough for Jordan to cover all the needs of the electricity system for decades."
Al-Kharabsha added that "10 new gas wells will be drilled this year."
If the minister's words are true and Jordan reaches a state of self-sufficiency in the matter of gas, it will not need gas from Israel for the needs of the local market in this situation.
However, the minister spoke in general, did not present data, so his words should be treated with caution.
