The Chinese regime has been inviting influential figures from the West — including politicians, academics, and journalists such as MSNBC’s Chris Hayes — on fully funded trips to China.
These visits may appear harmless, but experts warn they are part of a broader strategy.
NTD News discussed this with Peter Schweizer, president of the Government Accountability Institute (GAI). According to Schweizer, China openly pursues what it calls “elite capture.”
The concept is simple and highly intentional: Beijing identifies the elites of a target country — lawmakers, media personalities, cultural influencers, academic leaders — and works to shape their perceptions. By offering luxury trips, access, and curated experiences, the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) seeks to soften their stance toward the regime and ensure they adopt a more favorable, accommodating line.
