Hamas leader Mousa Abu Marzouk’s recent legal bid to remove his organization from the UK’s terror list should alarm U.S. policymakers. This is not just a foreign issue—it is a reminder of how America’s openness has been exploited for decades by the Muslim Brotherhood and its affiliates.
Abu Marzouk arrived in the U.S. on a student visa in 1982 and spent 14 years building Hamas-linked networks on American soil. He earned advanced degrees, gained permanent residency, raised millions for terrorism, and even sought official recognition from U.S. administrations. His connections ran through the infamous Holy Land Foundation (HLF), which the FBI shut down in 2001 for funneling money to Hamas. That network’s influence has not disappeared—it has evolved.
Other Brotherhood leaders followed similar paths. Dr. Tareq Al-Suwaidan built mosques and Islamist associations while openly supporting jihad. Sami Al-Arian used his university post to found Islamist fronts before being deported for terror ties. Hatem Bazian, founder of American Muslims for Palestine and a leader of the BDS movement, continues to shape anti-Israel campus activism. Salah Soltan, who once ran an Islamic university in Michigan, was later convicted in Egypt for Brotherhood leadership.
This is not coincidence but the result of a deliberate, long-term strategy. The Brotherhood’s own strategic document, entered into evidence in the HLF trial, describes its “grand jihad” in America to “destroy Western civilization from within.” That vision is playing out today, as groups with Brotherhood roots fuel coordinated anti-Israel protests on U.S. campuses and beyond.
