Syria’s new regime has decided not to renew official documents for the country’s Palestinian residents, effectively stripping them of their legal status. While Syrian citizens are receiving new IDs, passports, and driver’s licenses bearing the state’s updated symbols, Palestinians are being excluded as a form of sanction.

The move leaves thousands without valid identification, preventing students from obtaining high school diplomas or university degrees, and jeopardizing their future job prospects both inside Syria and abroad.
