US Navy Command signed another contract with Lockheed Martin worth $174.6 million to improve the third-generation helmet-mounted displays or the Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II joint strike fighter that are jointly produced by Collins Aerospace and Israeli Elbit Systems. Last summer (August 2023) the Navy awarded a similar upgrade contract to Lockheed Martin worth $347.4 million.
According to Elbit Systems of America, "Virtual capabilities of the electro-optical helmet-mounted display system enables the pilot to virtually see through the bottom of the F-35's fuselage or directly at a target to experience extreme spatial orientation, superior weapons targeting, and tactical superiority during the day and at night. At the same time, the pilot has an uninterrupted display of flight information and sensor data."
