Lebanese media report that Iran is pressuring Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri not to agree to any initiative that would lead to Hezbollah’s disarmament.
This reflects Tehran’s continuing influence over Lebanon’s political system — but it also raises questions about Iran’s involvement in the ongoing negotiations between Israel and Hamas.
An Arab source told i24NEWS that there are currently two opposing camps within Hamas regarding the talks. One supports moving forward based on the Witkoff framework. The other insists on conditioning any agreement on a full Israeli withdrawal to the pre-October 7 lines — even if such a withdrawal is phased.
This internal division helps explain why Hamas surprised mediating nations just before a deal was expected, demanding the IDF retreat from all main routes and remain at least 800 meters from the Gaza perimeter.
