Russian authorities have detained 11 individuals in the village of Gubden, located in the republic of Dagestan, on suspicion of attempting to establish a radical Islamist-controlled enclave.
According to reports, the group sought to impose its own system of governance and religious enforcement, effectively operating outside state control.
The suspects allegedly set up checkpoints at the village entrance, controlling who could enter or leave. At night, they blocked access roads entirely and installed surveillance systems around the area. During the day, patrols enforced a strict interpretation of religious conduct, with reports that those who violated these rules were physically assaulted. Russian special forces ultimately conducted a raid, detaining all 11 suspects. Nine have been placed in pre-trial detention, while the fate of the remaining two is pending a court decision.
