Jordan is advancing the National Water Carrier with U.S. assistance, and this is also important for Israel
Today, Jordan signed a partnership agreement with the U.S. worth $78.2 million to prepare the infrastructure for receiving the "National Carrier" water – Jordan's flagship project for desalinating Red Sea water in Aqaba and transporting it north to all the kingdom's districts.
The project itself is expected to desalinate about 300 million cubic meters of water per year and transfer it through pipelines over more than 450 km. According to the plan, upon its completion around 2030, it is expected to supply about 40% of Jordan's drinking water needs.
The new agreement does not fund the desalination itself, but rather what the project cannot operate without, namely strategic reservoirs, transmission lines, connection to systems in areas like Amman and Zarqa, planning, supervision, leak detection technologies, and improving network efficiency.
