A Financial Times report reveals that Turkey’s top diplomat has played a central role in backchannel efforts aimed at defusing soaring tensions between Washington and Tehran.
According to the report, Turkey’s Foreign Minister **Hakan Fidan** has been conducting intensive mediation between the United States and Iran in an effort to prevent a military confrontation in the Persian Gulf. Fidan, who maintains direct communication channels with both Washington and Tehran, reportedly identified what he described as unprecedented flexibility from the American side regarding Iran’s nuclear program.
WASHINGTON SIGNALS POTENTIAL SHIFT
In an interview cited by the Financial Times, Fidan said the US is now “ready to accept a certain level of Iranian uranium enrichment within clearly defined limits.” Such a position would mark a notable shift from Washington’s longstanding opposition to enrichment activities inside Iran.
