A French court has sentenced three women who joined the Islamic State in Syria, including the niece of two jihadists who claimed responsibility for the 2015 Paris terror attacks.
Jennyfer Clain, 34, was given 11 years for IS membership. Her sister-in-law Mayalen Duhart, 42, received 10 years, and her mother-in-law Christine Allain, 67, was handed 13 years.
Clain’s uncles, Jean-Michel and Fabien Clain, voiced IS claims for the 2015 attacks that killed 130 people in Paris—the deadliest assault in France since World War II. Both brothers were later killed during the US-backed campaign that defeated IS in 2019.
In court, Clain apologised to victims “in France, Syria, Iraq and elsewhere.” Her lawyer called the ruling “balanced” and said they would likely not appeal.
