Mahmoud Qomati, deputy chairman of Hezbollah’s political council, issued a direct and alarming threat against the Lebanese government following its recent decision to outlaw Hezbollah’s military activity and permit the arrest of operatives carrying weapons.
In an interview, Qomati labeled the government’s actions “illegal” and warned leaders not to follow the path of France’s Vichy regime, which was dismantled after World War II.
He went further, declaring that Hezbollah has the capability to “turn Lebanon upside down” in response to what he described as “stupid and despicable” decisions. While claiming the organization has remained patient for now, Qomati emphasized that “there is a limit to everything,” signaling that Hezbollah may escalate its actions if government pressure continues.
NEWSRAEL: WHY THIS IS IMPORTANT:
This statement exposes Hezbollah’s true position within Lebanon—not merely as a political actor, but as an armed force willing to use violence against its own government to maintain control. The threat underscores the fragile state of Lebanese sovereignty and highlights how deeply Hezbollah has embedded itself as a parallel power structure. Such rhetoric raises serious concerns about potential internal conflict, further destabilization, and the erosion of any remaining authority held by the Lebanese state.
