Iranian economist Arsham Reisinezhad says Beijing benefits from controlled Middle East tension that prevents Washington from focusing fully on China.
China is using Iran as a tactical instrument to keep the Middle East unstable enough to distract the United States, according to Iranian economist Arsham Reisinezhad.
Reisinezhad said Beijing needs Iran and the Strait of Hormuz to maintain access to inexpensive energy, but does not seek complete regional stability. Instead, China allegedly favors “controlled tension” that forces Washington to devote military and diplomatic resources to the Middle East rather than concentrating pressure on Beijing.
He said China supplied Iran with military assistance, equipment and satellite data during the Hormuz War, providing both open and covert support to Tehran.
