CRISIS: IRGC mines Hormuz — then loses track of them
Iran reportedly created a new crisis in the Strait of Hormuz after rushing to scatter naval mines so chaotically that it lost track of its own minefield.
According to the report, US intelligence believes the Iranian Revolutionary Guards deployed naval mines in the Strait of Hormuz using many small speedboats, but failed to keep proper records of their locations.
Strong currents may have moved some of the mines from their original positions, making the danger even harder to control.
The result is a serious embarrassment for Tehran. Iran tried to use the Strait of Hormuz as a weapon against the world economy, but may have created a trap it cannot safely manage or remove on its own.
