NEWSRAEL COLUMNIST JALAL TAGREEB suggests a must cheaper and more effective way to confront the Houthis
The Houthi militia in Yemen has continued its sporadic missile and drone attacks targeting Israel, posing a nuisance rather than a strategic threat. While these strikes are largely intercepted and have caused little actual damage, they are not without consequence.
Each incoming projectile demands an interception, consuming valuable time, resources, and adding financial strain on Israel’s advanced defense systems like the Iron Dome and Arrow.
Israel’s typical response—airstrikes from the IAF—carries its own burdens. These sorties are costly and strategically inefficient against a group like the Houthis, who are adept at guerrilla warfare. With their “hit, hide, and wait” tactics, deep tunnel networks, and strong command of Yemen’s complex geography, the Houthis are unlikely to be subdued through conventional airpower alone. A smarter, leaner approach is required.
