Today, Wednesday, September 27, the American Embassy in Damascus expressed its support for the protests in southern Syria, through a telephone conversation with the spiritual leader of the Druze, Sheikh Hekmat al-Hijri.
According to a statement released by the embassy, Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Eitan Goldrich contacted Sheikh Hikmat al-Hijri, the spiritual leader of the Druze sect in Sweida, and expressed his support for freedom of expression for Syrians, including the right to hold a peaceful protest.
Goldrich reiterated his emphasis on a just and united Syria and a political solution that is compatible with Security Council Resolution No. 2254.
The peaceful popular uprising continues for the second month in a row in Sweida, against the backdrop of an increasing number of participants demanding the overthrow of the regime, the bringing of Bashar al-Assad to justice and the implementation of UN Resolution 2254, which guarantees the achievement of a peaceful transfer of power through democratic elections supervised by the UN.
