A photo has surfaced showing Greta Thunberg, the well-known selfie- activist, standing beside Zaher Birawi, head of Hamas’s command in Europe, aboard the ship Maideline before its departure to “break the blockade on Gaza.”
The NGO Ad Kan reveals this was no humanitarian flotilla—it was a Hamas project. Since 2018, flotillas labeled as “aid missions” have been tracked, showing that they carry little or no humanitarian supplies, but mainly communications and propaganda equipment.
Recently, a new group called Global Sumud Flotilla was established, preparing for what they describe as the “largest ever attempt” to break the Gaza blockade. The flotilla, scheduled to depart from Spain in late August, will involve dozens of ships and activists from 44 countries. Behind the scenes, however, Hamas is orchestrating the effort while putting human rights figures up front.
