Against the background of the continued fighting in Gaza, in Jordan the popular demands for the government to refrain from final signing the energy and water agreement, or what is known in Amman as the "water for electricity" deal, are increasing.
It should be mentioned that the Jordanian Minister of Water and the Israeli Minister of Energy signed a "Declaration of Intent" under American-Emirati sponsorship, during 2021, according to which Jordan will export to Israel about 600 megawatts of electricity produced from solar energy, in exchange for the supply of desalinated water from Israel.
The agreement is to be signed at the climate conference in Dubai later this month.
