Netanyahu orders cancellation of mass Meron gathering
'There is concern due to fragility of ceasefire'
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu instructed that the hillula of Rabbi Shimon Bar Yochai in Meron, on Lag BaOmer, will not be held this year with mass participation, but only in a symbolic format.
According to Netanyahu, the background to the directive is 'the concern of a mass casualty event due to the fragility of the ceasefire with Lebanon, the site's proximity to the Lebanese border, rocket fire into the area and difficulty in extensive and timely evacuation of hillula participants.'
