Houthis have abducted some of the crew who survived the Iranian-led attack on the Eternity C vessel near Yemen.
The U.S. Embassy in Yemen confirmed the incident and demanded their immediate release, calling the Houthis' actions "unlawful and inhumane." Washington said these individuals were seafarers who should not be used as bargaining chips in regional conflicts.
The vessel, which was targeted in the Red Sea last week, suffered heavy damage but managed to avoid sinking. The kidnapped crew members were reportedly taken after being rescued and brought to shore.
International maritime groups have condemned the act, calling it a dangerous escalation in the Houthis' campaign against commercial shipping.
