Arab media reports indicate that political and diplomatic figures in Beirut are engaged in contacts with a Christian right-wing lobby in Washington, aiming to persuade US President Donald Trump not to agree to a ceasefire in Lebanon and not to accept Iran’s demands.
At the same time, Lebanese media outlets are accusing internal actors of actively working against a halt to the fighting. According to these reports, “there are Lebanese who are partners in the massacre, sending secret messages and public calls to Washington and Tel Aviv not to stop the war.”
Meanwhile, Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam announced that his government has decided to file an urgent complaint with the United Nations Security Council against Israel, citing its ongoing attacks in Lebanon.
