South Korea and the US have stepped up deterrence efforts against North Korea's mounting threats with the arrival of a US nuclear submarine.
The USS Springfield nuclear-powered fast attack submarine arrived at a naval base in Busan on February 25, 2023. According to the US Pacific Fleet, USS Springfield arrived in Busan for a scheduled port visit. The US said the submarine conducts routine maritime security operations and supports national security interests in the region.
A US nuclear-powered aircraft carrier is also expected to participate in the allies' springtime combined exercise.
